Wenneman Meat Co. suffers from tragic fire Jan 27, 2011

Wenneman Meat Company suffered critical fire damage January 27th.  Owners Paul Otten and Brad Schmitz say that plans are already in the works to get back to business and plan on rebuilding as well.  Please stay tuned to this web site for updates and such.

We especially want to thank the firefighters of the 12 different fire departments that were on scene as well as the four other departments involved with "move ups" to stand by at other fire stations.   Over 100 animals were saved and no one was injured.  Again, thank you very much for your assistance.

The new approx $6 million facility is located adjacent to the previous site along Illinois Route 15 in St. Libory. The former facility burned to the ground on January 27, 2011. With 12 fire departments responding to the blaze it was still a total loss. The new specially designed 22,000 square foot processing facility houses a largely expanded retail area, a slaughter floor, processing area and office space. The new design provides for the most efficient and cost effective methods in the industry. Construction on the new facility started in May 2011 with an very aggressive fast tracked schedule with an October 2011 completion date. The project was successfully completed in 5 months as scheduled. Wenneman's has a tradition of providing quality meat, smoked hams and bacon, homemade sausages and meat processing with the knowledge and experience accumulated for over three quarters of a century at the same location.


February 9, 2011 - Services we are now offering to our valued customers:
**New Hours of operation: Monday through Friday 8 - 4:30  Saturdays, 8 - Noon.  If other arrangements need to be made, please contact Brad Schmitz at 618-713-4195 or Paul Otten at 618-967-3948.
** Deer Update - People holding confirmation post cards for deer that have already been processed, and are waiting for smokies and jerkey may at this time pick up their products at the St. Libory facility during normal business hours.  Anyone that has not yet received a post card, please contact us for a status update of your order.  Some orders for smokies and jerkey are being processed at this time and will be available after February 12, 2011.  Please wait to receive your confirmation post card prior to coming to our St. Libory facility for pick up.  If you have not received a confirmation post card by February 19, 2011, please contact us at that time to verify your order.
**Custom Beef and Hog processing
- Call 768-4328 for a delivery appointment to our facility Monday between 8-3.  Livestock is to be delivered to our St. Libory location.  We will then transport the livestock to our temporary processing facility, process the livestock to your request, and return the product to our St. Libory facility for a scheduled pickup. 
**Spices & Butchering Supplies - Spices and casings are available on a "walk in" basis at the St. Libory facility.  Pork trimmings and beef trimmings are also available with a three (3) day advanced noticed and scheduled pick up time.


January 31, 2011 - Wenneman is offering processing of Beef, Hog effective immediately.  We have obtained a temporary location to put our employees back to work providing you with the same quality products and services you've come to appreciate in the past. 

By the end of the week, we will be offering meat processing supplies such as seasonings, casings, and more at our St. Libory location through our temporary office on the south side of the old plant.   Please call us at 618-768-4328.


January 28, 2011 - Wenneman has a temporary office trailer brought in to begin following up with customers on their products, insurance company, etc.  We are awaiting for electric and phone connections.   We hope to be selling some meat processing products soon from this office.
